The President of Kazakhstan will be elected for a 7-year term without the possibility of re-election.

Modern.az reports that this was stated in the draft Republican Constitution published in the "Kazakhstanskaya Pravda" newspaper.

The draft Constitution states: "The President of the Republic of Kazakhstan is elected for a 7-year term by adult citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan in accordance with constitutional law, through secret ballot on the basis of universal, equal, and direct suffrage."

It is emphasized in the draft Constitution that the possibility of re-election is not foreseen.

A nationwide referendum on the adoption of the new Constitution will be held on March 15. Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a Decree on March 15 regarding the holding of a republican referendum on the new Constitution. Voters will be asked one question in the referendum: whether they approve the new document. If approved, the new document will come into force on July 1.
