Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has admitted that the authorities bear responsibility for the protests that have occurred in the country.

According to information from Modern.az, citing Iranian media, the head of state stated during his visit to Golestan province that the youth taking to the streets is related to the government's inability to adequately react to problems.

“If our youth have taken to the streets, then the fault lies with us, and we have not been able to adequately respond to their concerns and worries,” Pezeshkian emphasized.

Meanwhile, the “Human Rights Activists in Iran” (HRANA) agency, operating in the US, announced that the number of fatalities during the protests that began in the country on December 28, 2025, amidst economic difficulties, has reached 7,002 people. According to the agency, 52,941 people were detained during the clashes. Among the deceased are also 214 security force personnel.

HRANA states that information on an additional 11,730 incidents is currently being verified.

It should be noted that official Tehran has not yet confirmed the figures announced regarding casualties during the protests.
