The office of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Sistani in Iraq announced that Thursday, February 19, is the first day of the month of Ramadan.
Modern.az reports, citing foreign media, that Ayatollah Sistani's office did not agree with the claim that February 18 was the first day of Ramadan.
Along with Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Iran, Oman, Indonesia, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, Japan, and Brunei also recognized Thursday, February 19, as the beginning of the month of Ramadan.
However, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Yemen, Palestine, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Lebanon announced that February 18 was the first day of the month of Ramadan.
