Former South Korean President Yun Sok-Yol has been accused of rebellion and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Modern.az reports that the Seoul court found him guilty of organizing an uprising when martial law was declared in December 2024. The prosecution had demanded the death penalty for Yun Sok-Yol.

In early December 2024, Yun Sok-Yol declared a state of emergency in South Korea, citing the necessity of "eliminating pro-North Korean anti-state forces," and called on opposition parties to "stop the heinous acts paralyzing the country." Parliament voted for the president's impeachment, and he was arrested in January.

In addition to organizing the uprising, Yun Sok-yol was accused of obstructing justice, abusing his authority, and aiding the enemy in the operation to send drones to North Korea in October 2024.
