The Russian government has approved a draft project concerning amendments to the 2000 agreement on visa-free travel between Russia and Armenia. According to the decision, the rules for Armenian citizens entering Russia are being tightened.
Modern.az reports that, according to the new changes, Armenian citizens will henceforth be able to enter Russia only with a passport – including a diplomatic passport. Other documents will not be considered acceptable for border crossing.
According to the information, the changes have been agreed upon with Yerevan and will be formalized through an exchange of notes.
According to the updated list, the following documents will remain valid for entry into Russia:
- Passport of an Armenian citizen;
- Diplomatic passport;
- Certificate for return to Armenia (only upon exit from Russia, for example, in case of passport loss).
It should be noted that until now, Armenian citizens could also travel to Russia with a birth certificate for children under 16, identity cards for military and law enforcement personnel, a flight crew member's certificate, as well as a railway worker's certificate. With the new changes, these documents have been removed from the list.
