Iran's Assembly of Experts has begun the process of electing a new supreme leader for the Islamic Republic. The final decision regarding the successor to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed as a result of a US-Israeli attack, will be announced through the Secretariat of the Assembly.

Modern.az reports that Mahmud Rajabi, a member of the Assembly of Experts, has confirmed that work has begun to identify the new supreme leader.

"The process of electing the leader of the revolution has begun, and the final decision will be announced through the Secretariat of the Assembly of Experts," he said.

The Assembly of Experts is an advisory p responsible for appointing the supreme leader of the state. It consists of 88 clerics elected for an eight-year term.

According to Article 111 of the country's Constitution, the experts are obliged, in the event of the current leader's death, resignation, or removal from office, to appoint a new leader as soon as possible.

Political analysts present Mujtaba Khamenei, the son of the late Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, as one of the front-running candidates in the struggle for the supreme leadership. Rumors have even circulated that he has already been elected.
