Dozens of Iranians who wanted to celebrate the reported killing of Ali Khamenei were detained in Moscow.
Modern.az reports that, according to “Ostorozhno, novosti”, on the evening of March 1, Iranian citizens gathered near the “Salaryevo” metro station. The call for this gathering had been shared a day earlier on Instagram by a woman named Reyhane, who works as a dentist in Russia. She had asked people “not to bring political posters” and had set the meeting time. The meeting took place one day after news spread about the alleged killing of Iran's supreme religious leader, Ali Khamenei.
Police arrived at the scene and detained the participants. Reyhane was charged with organizing an unauthorized event. Although she stated in court that it was “a meeting for a barbecue”, the court sentenced the woman to 10 days of administrative arrest. Other participants were charged with participating in an unauthorized event and were fined.
According to the police version, the people were chanting the slogan “Thank you, USA” and were not complying with the demands of law enforcement agencies. Israeli journalist Ksenia Svetlova notes that their compatriots and the Iranian embassy may have informed law enforcement agencies about them.
