US intelligence agencies had previously warned President Donald Trump that an attack against Iran could result in retaliatory strikes against allies in the Gulf region.
Modern.az reports that this information was provided to "Reuters" by a US official who wished to remain anonymous and two sources familiar with intelligence reports. It is stated that although pre-war assessments did not describe Iran's retaliatory action as “inevitable,” it was included in the list of possible scenarios.
Nevertheless, Trump stated in his remarks on Monday that Iran's strikes on Qatar, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, and Kuwait were unexpected. According to him, Tehran should not have targeted countries in the region on such a wide scale, and this came as a surprise to Washington.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the matter. The Office of the US Director of National Intelligence declined to comment on the issue.
