The venue for possible talks between the US and Iran has been announced.
Modern.az reports that Rafael Grossi, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), stated this in an interview with the publication “Corriere della Sera”.
According to him, talks between the parties could take place this weekend in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan.
“I believe that talks could be held this weekend in Islamabad. It is expected that the agenda will not be limited to nuclear energy alone. This time, the missile program, armed groups linked to Iran, and the country's security guarantees will also be subjects of discussion,” Grossi noted.
It should be recalled that on March 23, US President Donald Trump announced that “deep and constructive” talks were being held with Iran, and in this regard, he extended the deadline for the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Prior to this, Trump had threatened to strike Iran's energy facilities if the ultimatum was not complied with.
However, Tehran denied that any talks were being held with Washington.
It should be noted that the US and Israel launched a military operation against Iran on February 28. Washington stated that the main objective of this operation was to curb Tehran's nuclear program and prevent the country from acquiring nuclear weapons.
According to the information, the US demands that Iran completely abandon its enriched uranium reserves and dismantle three nuclear facilities. Iran, however, states that it has maintained its right to enrich uranium for many years and has declared that it did not engage in such activities during the recent attacks.
