Turkey is taking its next steps towards strengthening its military aviation. For this purpose, the country's Minister of Defense, Yaşar Güler, visited London and held talks with his British counterpart, Con Hili.

Modern.az reports that the main topic of the meeting was the agreement signed in October 2025. According to the agreement, Turkey will acquire 20 “Eurofighter Typhoon” fighter jets from the United Kingdom. Within the framework of this agreement, valued at approximately 8 billion pounds sterling (10.7 billion dollars), the first aircraft are not expected to be delivered before 2030.

In addition, Ankara also plans to acquire used fighter jets. According to information, Turkey intends to acquire a total of 24 “Typhoon” aircraft, 12 from each of Qatar and Oman. This aims to strengthen the country's air force in a shorter period.

On the other hand, Turkey is also expanding military cooperation with the United States. By the end of 2024, official Ankara finalized an agreement for the acquisition of 40 F-16 fighter jets, valued at 7 billion dollars.

It should be recalled that Turkey was removed from the F-35 program in 2019 due to its acquisition of S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems from Russia. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan brought this issue back to the agenda during his meeting with former US President Donald Trump.

In February, Donald Trump announced that the US was “very seriously” considering the sale of F-35 aircraft to Turkey.

Thus, these military acquisitions carried out by Turkey in parallel with both Europe and the US aim to strengthen the country's air force and consolidate its position in the regional military balance.
