Israel struck Iran's strategic port located on the Caspian Sea.

Modern.az reports that, according to information released by “The Wall Street Journal”, the attack targeted the port of Bandar-Anzali, and this is considered Israel's first military strike in the Caspian region.

According to the information, the aforementioned port has served as an important logistics hub between Iran and Russia. It is reported that oil, grain, as well as weapons and unmanned aerial vehicles were transported from here. It is noted that in 2023 alone, over 300,000 artillery shells and approximately 1 million rounds of ammunition were sent from Iran to Russia via this route.

According to the Israeli side's statement, the strike targeted military facilities in the port. As a result of the attack, military vessels, port infrastructure, a command center, and a ship repair plant were targeted. Released images show damage to the headquarters of the Iranian Navy and the destruction of several vessels.

Experts state that military shipments carried out through this port are closely linked to civilian trade, particularly grain shipments. For this reason, the strike could pose a risk not only militarily but also to Iran's food supply.

One of the notable points is that this attack occurred simultaneously with Israel striking Iran's largest gas field, the "South Pars" area. This indicates that tensions in the region have entered a new phase.

Analysts note that over the past year, the volume of shipments via the port of Bandar-Anzali has sharply increased, rising by approximately three times. This further enhances its strategic importance.

Thus, this first strike carried out by Israel in the Caspian region is regarded as an event that could have serious consequences not only for Iran but also in terms of military-logistical relations with Russia.
