The Italian Navy plans to integrate Turkey's “Bayraktar TB3” unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) into the "Cavour" vessel.
Modern.az reports that this was announced by Vice Admiral Enrico Bergotto, Commander-in-Chief of the Italian Navy, during hearings held at the Senate's Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee. It was stated that this step is considered a new stage in the development of carrier-based unmanned systems for the country and could make Italy the first European operator of the "Bayraktar TB3" platform.
It was noted that the UAVs will be acquired through a joint venture established between Leonardo and Baykar.
Experts believe that this step is an important part of the Italian Navy's transition strategy to unmanned systems and will facilitate the formation of hybrid air groups on aircraft carriers in the future.
