The United Arab Emirates is considering a military option against Iran for the restoration of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
Modern.az reports that the publication "The Wall Street Journal" has disseminated information on this matter, citing diplomatic sources.
According to the information, the UAE is ready to provide support for a possible military operation together with the US and other allies. Within this framework, the country can provide assistance, among other things, in mine clearance efforts in the area.
The publication writes that the Gulf countries are insistent on the UN Security Council adopting a resolution authorizing the use of force for the opening of the Strait of Hormuz.
However, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not denied the existence of such plans. It was stated that a “broad global consensus” exists regarding the importance of protecting freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
It should be noted that before the war of the US and Israel against Iran, approximately one-fifth of the oil exported by sea worldwide was transported through the Strait of Hormuz. However, the closure of the Strait has led to a sharp increase in the prices of energy carriers in the world market.
