Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated that the current discussions with the US are not negotiations, but are limited to an exchange of messages, either directly or through friendly intermediaries in the region.
Modern.az reports that in an interview with Al Jazeera, Araqchi admitted to receiving direct messages from US President's special envoy Steve Wittkoff, but emphasized that this does not constitute official negotiations.
He noted that US messages are conveyed through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and that there are continuous contacts between security agencies. Araqchi claimed that the US is not holding talks with any specific institution within Iran, and that the exchange of messages takes place within the framework of the government – under the supervision of the Supreme National Security Council.
He stated that these messages contain warnings or common perspectives and are conveyed through specific channels.
Regarding Iran's reaction to America's conditions, Araqchi stated that official Tehran has not sent any response to the 15 proposals and has not yet presented its own proposal or condition.
Speaking about his country's conditions to end the war, he emphasized that they would not accept a ceasefire, but rather demanded a complete cessation of military operations not only in Iran but throughout the entire region.
Araqchi confirmed that Iran's conditions guarantee that attacks will not be repeated and that compensation for losses will be provided. He emphasized that no decision has yet been made regarding negotiations, and that the Iranian people cannot be threatened, and the American president must treat them with respect.
Regarding maritime navigation, Araqchi confirmed that the Strait of Hormuz is closed only to those waging war against Iran. He noted that all necessary measures have been taken to ensure the safe passage of ships from friendly countries through the strait.
