U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Washington is seriously considering withdrawing from the alliance because NATO countries did not join the war against Iran.
Modern.az reports that Trump said this in an interview with "The Telegraph" newspaper.
"NATO has never impressed me. I have always known them (alliance members) to be paper tigers, and by the way, Russian President Vladimir Putin knows this too," Trump said.
The U.S. President emphasized that he expected help from allies in NATO.
He stated that he merely said "hey" to NATO members and had not actually demanded their participation in the war until now. In his opinion, NATO countries should have automatically participated in the war.
"We were automatically everywhere, including Ukraine. Ukraine was not our problem. This was a test, and we were there for them and would always be there for them. But they were not with us," he added.
