Mustafa Bozbey, the mayor of Bursa, Turkey, has been detained.
Modern.az reports that the mayor, who is from the opposition CHP, was detained by law enforcement agencies on charges of bribery and money laundering. A total of 55 people, including his wife, daughter, and two brothers, were also detained along with him.
According to investigation materials, the charges relate to the period when Bozbey served as the head of Nilüfer district between 1999–2019. The prosecutor's office states that during those years, legal violations occurred during construction projects, and illegal income was obtained in exchange for granting additional urban planning privileges.
It should be noted that Ekrem İmamoğlu, another CHP municipal chairman and Mayor of Istanbul, is also currently detained and awaiting a court decision.
