In the central part of the Mediterranean Sea, at least two people have died and more than 70 people are missing as a result of a boat carrying migrants capsizing.

Modern.az reports that the non-governmental organizations “Mediterranea Saving Humans” and “Sea-Watch” have released information regarding this.

The organization “Mediterranea Saving Humans” stated that a boat that departed from Libya on Saturday afternoon, with 105 people on board, including women and children, sank. As a result, more than 70 people are missing. During the search operations, the bodies of two people were recovered from the water, and 32 people were rescued. The incident occurred in the search and rescue zone under Libyan control.

According to “Sea-Watch”, the survivors were rescued by two merchant vessels and transported to the Italian island of Lampedusa on Sunday morning.

It should be noted that the island of Lampedusa is one of the main entry points for migrants attempting to cross from North Africa to Europe via the Mediterranean Sea, and numerous lives are lost along this dangerous route.

According to a statement from the Italian Ministry of Interior, as of April 3, 6175 migrants have reached the country's shores.
