Against the backdrop of US and Israeli military air strikes against Iran, the highway connecting the capital Tehran to the city of Tabriz, located in East Azerbaijan province, has been closed.

According to **Modern.az**, the emergency management department of Iran's East Azerbaijan province released information regarding this.

It was reported that missiles fell near a road service section at the 90-kilometer mark of the highway.

At the same time, the old road between Bostanabad and Miyana in East Azerbaijan province was closed as a result of missile impacts.

Currently, operational work is being carried out to open the roads. It has been requested that the aforementioned roads not be used until a second warning.

It should be noted that on February 28, the US and Israel began military operations against Iran. Strikes were carried out on the country's largest cities, including Tehran. The White House justified the attack with missile and nuclear threats originating from the Islamic Republic. As a result of the strikes on Iran, the country's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and some other key figures of the leadership were killed. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that it had carried out a large-scale retaliatory operation against Israel. Iran is also targeting US facilities in Bahrain, Jordan, Iraq, Qatar, Kuwait, UAE, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and Syria with ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles.

As a result of the conflict, the region's energy infrastructure and maritime transport have also come under serious risk. Due to security tensions around the Strait of Hormuz, oil prices in the world market have sharply increased. Iran maintains full control over the Strait of Hormuz, allowing only vessels it deems necessary to pass through the strait.
