The US–Israel coalition has carried out several attacks on Iran's Kharg Island.
Modern.az reports that Iran's “Mehr” Agency has disseminated information about this.
It has not been disclosed which specific objects on the island were subjected to the attack.
Following this, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared that if the American army crosses the “red lines,” the response will extend beyond the region.
On the night of April 8, the deadline set by US President Donald Trump for Iran to open the Strait of Hormuz expires. Trump stated that the “job with Iran can be finished in one night” and “that night could already be the upcoming night” (i.e., the night of April 7-8).
Kharg Island is located in the northern part of the Persian Gulf, approximately 25–30 km off the coast of Bushehr Province, northwest of the Strait of Hormuz. Its area is approximately 20 square kilometers, its length is 8 km, and its population is approximately 8,000 people.
Kharg is Iran's main export hub: 90% of the country's oil exports are carried out through the terminal located here. Oil is delivered here via pipelines from the largest fields, and the island's infrastructure allows for the loading of supertankers and provides conditions for storing up to 30 million barrels of crude oil. This complex was established in the 1960s by the National Iranian Oil Company in cooperation with the American company Amoco; after the 1979 Islamic Revolution, American assets were nationalized.
“The Wall Street Journal” wrote that Washington might involve marines to seize one or more islands near Iran's southern coast, including Kharg, with the aim of opening the Strait of Hormuz. The “Axios” portal also reported on the possible seizure of this island.
