Last night, a 2-week ceasefire agreement was reached between the US and Iran through Pakistan's mediation.
Modern.az reports that Axios has written about the details of the ceasefire talks. Citing its sources, the publication reports that April 6 was a "day of chaotic adjustments" to peace plans.
On Monday morning, as Trump spoke at Easter celebrations at the White House, US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff called all negotiation participants and declared Iran's 10-point counter-proposal sent to the US a "disaster." In response, new drafts of the agreement were discussed between Witkoff and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi with Pakistani mediators, while the foreign ministers of Egypt and Turkey tried to help the parties overcome their differences.
By that evening, the mediators had received US approval for the updated proposal for a two-week ceasefire. The final decision rested with Mojtaba Khamenei, who was actively involved in the process. The problem was that the Iranian leader's participation was "secret and very labor-intensive." Due to an Israeli assassination threat, Khamenei primarily communicated with the opposing parties through couriers delivering notes.
Two sources of the publication called Khamenei's ceasefire agreement a "breakthrough." A regional source noted that Araqchi played a key role both in leading the negotiations and in convincing IRGC commanders to accept the ceasefire agreement.
