Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, in a phone conversation with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, called on Europe to play a responsible role in supporting stability and security in the region.
Modern.az reports that this was stated in a report by “Press” TV.
During the conversation held yesterday, the Iranian President criticized European countries for not taking a firm and clear stance regarding the atrocities committed by the US and Israel against Iran.
He called on Europe to play a "responsible and effective role" in supporting lasting regional stability and security.
Pezeshkian also stated that a ceasefire in Lebanon remains one of the main conditions of Iran's 10-point ceasefire proposal aimed at halting unprovoked aggression targeting the region.
The conversation took place after Israel killed hundreds of people in Lebanon, despite US President Donald Trump previously declaring the proposal "workable" for negotiations.
During the call, Pezeshkian emphasized the importance of halting aggression against Lebanon and identified this crucial condition as "one of the main conditions of Iran's proposal."
He also stated that France plays an important role at the current stage and noted that Paris was previously one of the parties that ensured the ceasefire reached between Israel and Lebanon's “Hezbollah” movement in 2024.
Pezeshkian stated that Iran's acceptance of the ceasefire demonstrated both its "sense of responsibility" and its "serious will to resolve disputes through diplomacy."
Pezeshkian also called on European countries to pressure the aggressors to "abide by their commitments" and prevent any violations.
Elsewhere in the conversation, Pezeshkian stated that the security affecting the Strait of Hormuz is a "direct consequence of the military aggression of the US and Israel against Iran."
He also stated that the Islamic Republic has acted responsibly for many years in ensuring the safe passage of ships through the strategic waterway while protecting its national interests and security.
After the American-Israeli aggression began, Iran closed the waterway to enemies and their allies.
The Islamic Republic conditioned the reopening of the strait on the cessation of atrocities targeting the country and the wider region.
For his part, Macron considered the declaration of a ceasefire an "important step for the complete cessation of the war and the establishment of lasting peace in the region."
He emphasized the importance of halting violence in Lebanon and stated that Paris is ready to cooperate in international efforts aimed at promoting peace and security in the Persian Gulf region.
Meanwhile, the French head of state thanked Iran for its step to release two French citizens arrested on charges of espionage within the Islamic Republic.
