The French government plans to abandon the “Microsoft Windows” operating system on some government computers and switch to the open-source “Linux” platform.

Modern.az reports that David Amiel, France's Minister for Public Action and Accounts, stated that this initiative aims to “regain control over the country's digital destiny”:

“We can no longer accept not having control over our data and digital infrastructure.”

According to the information, “Linux” is an open-source operating system and, in addition to being free to use, can be applied with customized versions to suit various needs.

It is reported that the transition process will initially begin at "DINUM", France's digital governance agency. However, the government has not yet announced the specific timeframe for the transition or the “Linux” distributions to be used.

It should be noted that earlier, the country's government announced that it had abandoned the “Microsoft Teams” platform for video conferencing and switched to the local “Visio” service. This system is based on open-source and encrypted “Jitsi” technology. France also plans to transfer its healthcare data platform to a more reliable local system by the end of the year.
