Former First Deputy Prime Minister Abbas Abbasov, who was involved in the investigation by the State Security Service (SSS) and for whom a search was declared, has traveled from Turkey to Russia.
Modern.az website reports that, according to information from "Günün səsi", A. Abbasov came to his children living in Turkey a few months ago and was staying in Istanbul.
Since A. Abbasov thought that the Turkish government would extradite him to Azerbaijan, he flew to Moscow a few days ago.
The source stated that because the former First Deputy Prime Minister knew in advance that he would be brought to criminal responsibility, he had to urgently leave Turkey.
A. Abbasov's son, former deputy Aydın Abbasov, refused to comment on the matter concerning his father. He did not respond to phone calls and messages.
Let us recall that, regarding the former head of the Presidential Administration, academician Ramiz Mehdiyev, and others, at the State Security Service, in the criminal case under investigation on charges of actions aimed at seizing state power, the next decision has been announced.
Based on the materials collected in the criminal case, a decision was made to involve Abbas Abbasov, former First Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, who had remained outside of responsibility for many years due to Ramiz Mehdiyev's protection, in the investigation of the aforementioned criminal case, and a search was declared for him because he evaded the investigation by being outside the country's borders.
It should be noted that A. Abbasov served as First Deputy Prime Minister since 1992. During this period, he chaired several state commissions. After being dismissed from his post in 2006, he moved to Russia.
