Two minors left unsupervised in their father's car in Baku set the vehicle in motion and caused an accident.

According to information provided by the Main State Traffic Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to Modern.az, the incident occurred in the Khatai district of the capital.

Thus, district resident Ilham Gasimov left his “VAZ” brand car in front of his house, in a steep downhill area, with its doors open, and walked away.

At this time, his 7 and 6-year-old children got into the car and tampered with the gearshift.

As a result, the car started moving. Although the children managed to get out of the vehicle, the car, gaining speed downhill, hit two women on the road. During the incident, one of the pedestrians was injured, and the other lost her life.

"This incident shows that failure to comply with safety requirements when parking a vehicle can lead to serious consequences. In accordance with the requirements of the Law “On Road Traffic”, a car parked on a downhill road must have its parking brake engaged, its wheels turned in a safe direction, and the vehicle must be left with its doors locked.

If these simple but vital safety measures had been taken in that car, two families would not be facing a grave tragedy today.

The Main State Traffic Police Department emphasizes that failure to comply with safety requirements when parking a vehicle can lead to serious consequences. In this regard, drivers are required to act responsibly and strictly adhere to the requirements of the legislation", the statement noted.
