The war in the Middle East is disrupting the lives and livelihoods of people in the region and beyond.

Modern.az reports that this was emphasized in a statement on the outcomes of the meeting held on April 8 between the heads of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank Group (WBG), and the World Food Programme (WFP).

The meeting discussed the impacts of the war in the Middle East on the global economy and food security.

"It has already caused one of the biggest disruptions in global energy markets in modern history. The sharp increase in oil, gas, and fertilizer prices, coupled with disruptions in transportation, will inevitably lead to rising food prices and food insecurity," the statement noted.

It was also noted that the heaviest burden will fall on the world's most vulnerable population groups, especially low-income, import-dependent economies:

"Spikes in fuel prices and potential sharp increases in food prices are particularly concerning where fiscal space is limited and debt burdens are already high, reducing governments' ability to protect vulnerable households."

It was stated that all three organizations will provide support for stability and economic growth.
