In Iran, the home of a renowned film director was damaged as a result of US and Israeli airstrikes.

Modern.az reports that Esmail Baqayi, spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, provided this information on his social media account.

He noted that the house where the famous director Abbas Kiarostami lived was damaged during the bombardments.

During his post, E. Baqayi stated that this incident indicated that the attacks by the US and Israel were also directed at cultural heritage. He questioned what danger the director's house could pose to the US.

Baqayi emphasized that such strikes are directed not only against the state but also against a deeply rooted culture, civilization, and identity.

It should be noted that Abbas Kiarostami was one of the most recognized figures in Iranian cinema. He was awarded the “Palme d'Or” at the Cannes Film Festival for his film “Taste of Cherry,” which he directed in 1997. Additionally, the director's films “Close-Up” (1990), “Where Is the Friend’s House?” (1987), and “Certified Copy” (2010) are also world-renowned.

The director passed away in 2016 from an oncological illness.
