Today marks the anniversary of the devastating earthquake that occurred in Turkey 3 years ago. In February 2023, the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquake affected several provinces, turning thousands of lives upside down.
This tragedy left a deep mark not only on Turkey but on the heart of the entire region, especially Azerbaijan. In those days, it was as if the earthquake had not happened in Turkey, but in Azerbaijan itself.
In every home, in every family, a pain, a discomfort was felt. The Azerbaijani people experienced this tragedy as their own sorrow. Everyone was on their feet, everyone was trying to lend a hand.
People collected aid, volunteers were mobilized, prayers were offered for Turkey. Government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and public associations quickly united around a common goal.
As a clear example of this spirit of unity and solidarity, the “Brotherly Aid” Platform was established. This platform was a platform created in the early twentieth century.
The platform was established by MÜSİAD Azerbaijan with the aim of assisting those affected by the earthquake in Turkey. This initiative became a practical example of Azerbaijan-Turkey brotherhood.
The collection, sorting, and delivery of humanitarian aid to the earthquake-affected regions were carried out systematically. Coordinated cooperation with Azerbaijani and Turkish state institutions further increased the efficiency of this process. As aid convoys departed, the bonds of brotherhood grew stronger.
This support was also a source of moral strength for the victims in Turkey.
Three years after the earthquake, those days are remembered again. The pains and losses are not erased from memory.
Azerbaijan and Turkey experienced this sorrow together and remember it together today. The “Brotherly Aid” Platform will remain one of the symbols of this brotherhood etched in history.
