The trial of Vaqif Allahverdiyev, accused of anti-state calls and residing in the USA, is commencing.

Modern.az reports that the criminal case has been assigned to Judge Roman Alakbarli at the Baku Court for Grave Crimes.

The preparatory hearing of the court has been scheduled for January 6.

It should be noted that a decision was made to involve Vaqif Allahverdiyev as an accused person under Article 281.2 of the Criminal Code. It was reported that since he fled the investigation and hid outside the borders of Azerbaijan, a search was declared for him in connection with the announcement of charges against him. By the decision of the Binagadi District Court dated February 23 of this year, a preventive measure of arrest in absentia was chosen against him.

On September 18, additions and changes were made to the content of the indictment, and a decision was made to involve Vaqif Allahverdiyev as an accused person under Articles 220.2 and 281.2 of the Criminal Code.

It was noted that during his residence in the state of California, USA, he changed his first and last name to Viktor Aleksandr. In March-May 2017, he prepared 5 separate video appeals. In these videos, he addressed Azerbaijani citizens, making open calls that cause the disruption of public peace, tranquility, and security, aim to paralyze the activities of government bodies, and encourage the overthrow of the existing government, which was formed and operates on legal grounds in Azerbaijan, through the use of force.
