Starting from January 1, the visa issuance process for holders of diplomatic passports of Armenia and Turkey will be simplified.

Modern.az reports that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia has issued a statement regarding this.

According to information from the Ministry's press service, holders of diplomatic, service, and special passports will now be able to obtain electronic visas (e-visas) free of charge. The statement notes that this decision was made within the framework of normalizing relations between Yerevan and Ankara.

Armenia's "Hraparak" newspaper previously reported on this decision. According to the newspaper, Turkey's special representative for the normalization of relations with Armenia, Serdar Kılıç, recently presented a package of proposals to Yerevan, which also included plans for opening borders using the aforementioned scheme.

However, the newspaper claims that Ankara is not yet ready to open the border for cargo. Instead, it is reported that an alternative solution has been proposed: when Turkish goods are transited from Georgia to Armenia, Armenia will be indicated as the final destination instead of Georgia, as was previously the case.

Ankara has also prepared a protocol on the establishment of diplomatic relations, but demands that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan personally visit Turkey for its signing, even though such documents are usually signed at the level of foreign ministers.
