Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is ready to hold a referendum on the issue of a free economic zone, which envisages the mutual withdrawal of troops in Donbas.
Modern.az reports that Zelenskyy said this in an interview with "Fox News" television channel.
He says that the creation of a free economic zone would be a compromise.
"We will have to withdraw a few kilometers. This means that Russia must withdraw a few kilometers. This free economic zone will have specific rules. A referendum is a way to accept or reject this proposal," he stated in his interview with "Fox News".
The interview took place after Zelenskyy's talks with US President Donald Trump. The meeting took place last week, on December 28, at Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. The main topic of discussion was the 20-point peace plan proposed by the Ukrainian side after the preparation of the American plan, which initially consisted of 28 points.
According to Zelenskyy, the 20-point peace plan prepared by Kyiv has been agreed upon by 90%, and security guarantees between Ukraine and the US, as well as security guarantees between Ukraine, the US, and Europe, have been agreed upon by almost 100%. The Ukrainian leader suggested that talks with his country's and European delegations could be held in the US in January.
