Internet is being restored in Iran

19 January 2026, 17:57

Iranian authorities may fully restore internet access by Friday, January 23.

Modern.az reports that this was stated by Iran's Vice President for Science and Technology, Hossein Afshin.

Internet access, blocked due to recent protests and unrest in Iran, has already been restored in the capital, Tehran.

Protests in Iran began in late December 2025 due to the devaluation of the national currency. On January 8, following calls by Reza Pahlavi, son of Iran's deposed Shah, the protests turned into riots and were accompanied by slogans against Iran's political system. On the same day, internet access was cut off in the country.

Iran's Supreme National Security Council accused the US and Israel of organizing the unrest in the Islamic Republic.
