Hundreds of tents have been submerged due to a powerful storm in the Gaza Strip.
Modern.az reports that Husnu Muhanna, spokesperson for the Gaza Municipality, provided this information.
According to him, as a result of the storm that has been effective for the past two days, floodwaters, mud, and waste have filled the tent camps and shelters where displaced Palestinians reside. The severe damage to the infrastructure, especially the sewage and rainwater drainage system, has further exacerbated the situation.
It was stated that the tents are not sufficient to protect against harsh weather conditions, and people have also lost their few belongings. Due to the cold weather and lack of medical supplies, children and the elderly, in particular, are at risk of illness.
It was noted that as a result of ongoing attacks over the past two years, more than 220 kilometers of sewage lines and over 15 kilometers of rainwater systems have been destroyed, reducing the system's operational capacity by more than 80 percent.
In Gaza, with a population of approximately 2.3 million, nearly 2 million people have been displaced. Despite the ceasefire, attacks and humanitarian restrictions are reported to continue. (TRT Haber)
