Italy has temporarily closed its embassy in Tehran, and the diplomatic mission will continue its activities from Baku.
According to Modern.az, this was stated by Italy's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antonio Tajani.
According to him, approximately 50 embassy employees have already crossed the Azerbaijani border.
"For security reasons, we have closed the Italian embassy in Tehran. A group of approximately 50 Italians, led by Italy's ambassador to Iran, has already crossed the border with Azerbaijan. We will continue to maintain diplomatic relations with Tehran to protect Italians remaining in Iran and our national interests. The embassy will continue its activities from Baku," Tajani emphasized.
It was previously reported that Italy's ambassador to Iran, Paola Amadei, and staff of the diplomatic mission had been evacuated from Iran via Azerbaijan.
