First Lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva visited the Azerbaijan Culture Museum named after Mirza Fatali Akhundzade in Tbilisi on April 6.
Modern.az reports that the First Lady of Azerbaijan was informed about the museum.
The museum building was constructed with the funds of Mirza Fatali Akhundzade, who once lived in Tbilisi. Based on the appeal of Azerbaijani intellectuals in Georgia, a house-museum of Mirza Fatali Akhundzade was established in the building in 1982. After the official visit of National Leader Heydar Aliyev to Georgia in 1996, this cultural center was thoroughly renovated and has been operating as a cultural center since then.
According to the Decree of the President of Georgia, the Center was granted the status of the Azerbaijan Culture Museum in 2007, and in 2013, extensive renovation and reconstruction works were carried out here with the financial support of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The opening ceremony of the museum, held on May 8 of the same year, was dedicated to the 90th anniversary of Great Leader Heydar Aliyev.
Currently, the cultural center operating under the museum offers carpet weaving, music (including mugham), painting, and language courses.
In the museum, whose main goal is to preserve and promote our culture and the cultural heritage of our people in Georgia, items related to Azerbaijan's cultural heritage are researched from the collections of various museums operating in this country, and their exhibitions are held.
Here, there are 6 exhibition halls displaying our national musical instruments and costumes, samples from various fields of folk art, exhibits reflecting the life and activities of M.F. Akhundzade, and other interesting items.
The exhibition also features traditional carpets woven by ethnic Azerbaijanis living in Georgia and preserved in the National Museum. Their creation dates back centuries. The collection and scientific study of these carpets began in the mid-19th century – specifically during the period of the “Caucasus Museum,” of which the Georgian National Museum is the legal successor.
In the hall dedicated to Azerbaijan-Georgia friendship, works by sculptors from both countries reflecting the friendly relations between our peoples, photographs of the Heydar Aliyev Culture and Recreation Park in Tbilisi, the M.F. Akhundzade school and library, Tbilisi Avenue in Baku, and the “Friendship Monument” are displayed.
In the museum, where cultural events and conferences are also held, the “Council of Sages” has been established, continuing the activities of the “Divani-Hikmat” literary society founded by Mirza Shafi Vazeh in Ganja in the 1820s-1830s. Here, the only library in the Azerbaijani language and an art gallery in Tbilisi operate.
Afterwards, the First Lady of Azerbaijan wrote her heartfelt words in the museum's guestbook. Small carpets woven by children were presented as gifts to Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva.
