True life is measured not only by the number of years but by the meanings contained within those years. Long-lived individuals are people who carry the silence, joy, and pain of time in their memory. They are not only the living memory and spiritual treasure of their families but also of an entire community and society.
Modern.az's “Masters of Life” section continues.
In the “Masters of Life” section, we introduce long-lived individuals who offer life lessons with every step, and we look back at the past in the light of their lived lives. Because such lives are valuable examples that build a bridge between the past and the future.
Our current presentation is about the oldest resident of Shirvan city.
Shirvan is a historical region covering a vast area extending from Derbent to the Kura River. In the 8th-16th centuries, the Shirvanshahs state, with its capital Shamakhi, was formed in this territory and functioned as a political and cultural center for a long time. The ancient city of Shirvan was the main center of the region, but over time, the name “Shirvan” was also applied to broader lands under the rule of the Shirvanshahs.
In the modern era, Shirvan city holds an important place on the administrative and economic map of Azerbaijan. This city, inhabited by tens of thousands of people, was one of the dynamically developing industrial centers during the former USSR period, combining multi-faceted socio-economic and cultural infrastructure facilities.
The longest-lived resident of Shirvan city is 87-year-old Munavvar Hamid gizi Guliyeva.
Grandma Munavvar was born in 1938 in the Basarkechar district of Armenia. She now continues her life in the Hajigahramanli settlement of Shirvan city. Munavvar Hamid gizi Guliyeva is an Azerbaijani woman who has seen the harsh face of time in her 87 years, facing each day with hard work, patience, and dignity. The life she has lived, remaining loyal to her family and values, reflects her courage and humility. Her life path is an inexhaustible life lesson for older generations and a source of inspiration for the youth.
Grandma Munavvar has 6 children – 3 sons and 3 daughters. She also has 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. One of Grandma's sons, Guliyev Farman Gardashali oglu, was heroically martyred during the First Karabakh War in the battles fought in the Fuzuli-Horadiz direction.
