October 22 marks the commemoration day of one of the martyrs of the 44-day Patriotic War – National Hero Shukur Hamidov.
According to Modern.az, Shukur Nariman oglu Hamidov was born on April 1, 1975, in Armudluq village of Gubadli. He was one of 10 children in the family.
Sh. Hamidov studied at the J. Nakhchivanski Military Lyceum from 1990 to 1993.
In 1993, he entered the Baku Higher Military School. In 1995, having mastered the motorized rifle specialty, he began his service as a platoon commander in a military unit in Nakhchivan with the rank of lieutenant. He rose to the military rank of major there. Later, he served as a company commander and deputy battalion commander for material and technical supply.
After becoming a cadet at the Military Academy in 2008, he served in various military units as a battalion commander, chief of staff, and military unit commander.
Shukur Hamidov showed great bravery in the battles for the liberation of the Lələtəpə height during the April battles of 2016. By the decree of the President of Azerbaijan dated April 22, 2016, Shukur Nariman oglu Hamidov was awarded the title of “National Hero of Azerbaijan”.
Furthermore, for his bravery shown during the operation to liberate the Lələtəpə height, Shukur Hamidov was prematurely awarded the military rank of colonel.
His comrades-in-arms state that Shukur Hamidov's greatest wish was to liberate our occupied territories, as well as his native Gubadli region, from occupation.
During the Patriotic War, Sh. Hamidov participated in operations for the liberation of some villages of his native Gubadli.
National Hero Shukur Hamidov was martyred on October 22, 2020, in the battles for the liberation of the Gubadli region.
He was laid to rest in the II Alley of Honor.
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, while speaking on the phone with Shukur Hamidov's father Nariman Hamidov, stated that the National Hero's name would be immortalized in the Gubadli region, where he was born and died for its liberation.
By the decree of President Ilham Aliyev, Shukur Hamidov was awarded the “For the Motherland” medal for his participation in the Patriotic War.
He was also awarded the medals "For the Liberation of Fuzuli", "For the Liberation of Jabrayil", and "For the Liberation of Gubadli" by decrees of the head of state.
Martyred Colonel Shukur Hamidov was awarded the "Zəfər" Order by the President's decree dated December 9, 2020.
The National Hero is survived by 1 son and 1 daughter.
