A protest was held in Landau, Germany, against the deportation of a 29-year-old Azerbaijani migrant.
According to Modern.az, more than 30 individuals organized an unauthorized protest by blocking the entrances and exits of the police station with signal lights taken from a nearby construction site.
Police stated that the protesters gathered after the Azerbaijani national, who was to be deported, was brought to the department. According to authorities, this is a standard medical procedure aimed at checking the migrant's health condition for fitness to fly.
The protest participants demanded the release of the individual. Additional police forces were deployed to the scene. At approximately 13:15, the protesters completely left the area. Police reported that no physical confrontation was recorded during the protest.
An investigation into the incident is currently underway. Within the framework of the investigation, the possibilities of an illegal gathering, as well as resistance to police officers, are being examined.
According to the German newspaper RHEINPFALZ, the Azerbaijani national has exhausted all legal avenues to remain in the country. His appeals were rejected by several court instances. Authorities stated that although he was given the opportunity to voluntarily leave the country, he did not utilize it. For this reason, the deportation process has been initiated by state authorities.
