"You know that there are more than 300 lakes in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, which naturally have water-collecting functions. However, between 2014 and 2025, as a result of sometimes illegal or sometimes unplanned expansions, several lakes here were drained, the area was occupied, and constructions were carried out".
Modern.az reports that this was stated by Zaur Mikayılov, Chairman of the State Agency for Water Resources of Azerbaijan, at a meeting on water supply in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula.
"This, in turn, leads to these regions and areas being exposed to flooding when intense rains fall", Z. Mikayılov said.
