President Ilham Aliyev has sent a letter to the President of the Republic of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
Modern.az reports that the letter, related to the third anniversary of the earthquake in Turkey, states:
"Dear Mr. President,
My Dear Brother,
Three years have passed since the earthquake that deeply shook the brotherly Republic of Turkey. I commemorate with great reverence and respect the cherished memory of those who lost their lives as a result of the terrible tragedy.
This disaster was a serious humanitarian test for Turkey. Thousands of people lost their lives overnight, and many cities and settlements were devastated. In those days, the Azerbaijani people watched the events with deep pain, accepting the sorrow of brotherly Turkey as their own, and shared in its grief.
The unbreakable brotherhood that underpins Azerbaijan-Turkey relations demonstrated its true essence precisely at such a difficult moment. From the very first moments of the tragedy, the Azerbaijani state and society, remaining committed to the principles of unity and solidarity, stood by Turkey and extended a hand of support and assistance.
Thanks to the strong state governance carried out under your wise leadership and the unity of the people, Turkey has currently achieved significant results in eliminating the consequences of the earthquake. The extensive reconstruction work in the affected regions, the creation of modern residential infrastructure, and the restoration of social welfare are clear indicators of Turkey's long-term development strategy.
As a manifestation of our fraternal duty, Azerbaijan contributed to the reconstruction and restoration efforts carried out in Kahramanmaraş province, actively participating in the establishment of the “Azerbaijan” neighborhood there. Azerbaijan's support for the brotherly country's recovery and construction efforts is a vivid expression of our friendly and allied relations.
I am confident that the strong unity and strategic alliance between Azerbaijan and Turkey, based on the philosophy of “One nation, two states,” will continue to contribute to the prosperity of our peoples, as well as serve to ensure regional stability, security, and sustainable development.
On this day of remembrance, I once again extend my deepest condolences to you, the families of those who perished, and all the brotherly people of Turkey, and I pray to Almighty Allah for mercy upon our brothers and sisters who lost their lives".
