President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev received Aleksey Overchuk, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation and Co-chairman of the Intergovernmental Commission, on March 2.
Modern.az reports that during the meeting, the Russian side expressed its sincere gratitude to the Azerbaijani leadership for the prompt assistance in the evacuation of Russian citizens from the Islamic Republic of Iran amidst the complex and tense situation in the region.
A detailed exchange of views was held regarding the agenda of Azerbaijan-Russia relations.
During the conversation, it was noted that, in accordance with the agreements reached by the leaders of Azerbaijan and Russia at their meeting in Dushanbe on October 9, 2025, the parties will take comprehensive practical steps in the near future to resolve the problems arising from the crash of an “AZAL” aircraft on December 25, 2024.
Attention was paid to the common intention to further develop mutually beneficial economic-trade, investment, industrial, and transport-logistics cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia in the future.
At the meeting, the prospects for the development of transport links in the region were discussed.
A common intention to continue work on the development of the “North-South” International Transport Corridor was confirmed.
During the conversation, a number of humanitarian issues were also discussed.
The meeting took place in a traditionally friendly and constructive atmosphere, characteristic of the Azerbaijan-Russia interstate dialogue.
