On March 4, the next meeting of the Organizing Committee established in connection with the organization of the Thirteenth session of the United Nations World Urban Forum (WUF13) was held.
Modern.az reports that Samir Nuriyev, Head of the Administration of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Chairman of the Organizing Committee, opened the meeting and emphasized that urban planning activities have been defined by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan as one of the main strategic goals in our state's socio-economic policy. He stated that the declaration of 2026 as the “Year of Urban Planning and Architecture” in our country is another expression of the importance given to the field of urban planning.
The Chairman of the Organizing Committee noted that the consistent, purposeful measures implemented under the leadership of our head of state towards ensuring the balanced development of the capital and regions and promoting sustainable settlement play a significant role in the comprehensive development of the country.
Samir Nuriyev brought to attention that Azerbaijan, as a country that keeps global urban planning processes in focus, puts forward innovative approaches in this field and successfully applies them in practice. He stated that the large-scale restoration and reconstruction process carried out in the Karabakh and East Zangezur economic regions, which is one of the rare examples globally in terms of its scale, scope, and speed, is the most vivid manifestation of this. At the same time, he noted that WUF13, which will be held in Baku in May 2026 and has already generated significant international interest, serves as a platform for the international presentation of Azerbaijan's conceptual approach to urban planning, including the practical experience applied in the liberated territories.
Subsequently, reports were heard from the members of the Organizing Committee regarding the current status of the WUF13 preparation process, substantive issues, work carried out in communication and organizational-logistics directions, as well as other matters on the agenda.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, proceeding from the tasks set by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan regarding the high-level organization of WUF13, gave instructions to the meeting participants for the execution of all work with higher quality, in a timely manner, and ensuring a comprehensive approach.
