The life satisfaction (happiness) ranking of the world's countries has been announced.
Modern.az reports, citing data from the “Gallup World Poll” covering the years 2023–2025, that Azerbaijan ranks 102nd in this ranking, which assessed 147 countries. The country's life satisfaction indicator is approximately 4.99 points, and this result is below the global average.
Among the countries in the region, Georgia ranks 91st, Armenia 89th, Turkey 94th, and Iran 97th in the list.
Among CIS countries, however, there is a different picture. Kazakhstan shows the highest result, ranking 33rd. Furthermore, Moldova is 77th, Russia 79th, and Ukraine 111th.
Among Turkic states, Kazakhstan ranks 33rd, Uzbekistan 53rd, and Kyrgyzstan 66th.
Traditionally, Scandinavian countries occupy the top positions in the ranking. Finland is first with 7.76 points, Iceland second, Denmark third, Costa Rica fourth, and Sweden fifth.
The bottom positions of the list are mainly occupied by countries experiencing socio-economic problems. Afghanistan is last with 147th place, followed by African countries.
The report notes that differences in life satisfaction among countries are mainly explained by six factors: GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom to make life choices, generosity, and perceptions of corruption. Furthermore, the research indicates that in measuring happiness, the overall evaluation of life is considered a more stable and objective indicator than daily emotions.
One of the notable points in the report concerns young people. It is stated that in 85 out of 136 countries, the happiness level of people under 25 has increased in the last 20 years, but conversely, a decrease has been observed in the USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The influence of social media is cited as one of the reasons for this decrease.
According to the methodology of this study, the ranking is based on how citizens of countries evaluate their lives. Respondents are asked to rate their lives on a scale from 0 to 10, and this indicator is called the “Cantril Ladder.”
