In January of this year, 105.4 million cubic meters of Azerbaijani natural gas were supplied to Syria via Turkish territory.
Modern.az reports that this was stated in the report of Turkey's Energy Market Regulatory Authority (Enerji Piyasası Düzenleme Kurumu – EPDK).
It was reported that in the first month of this year, Turkey exported a total of 204.37 million cubic meters of natural gas. Of the exported natural gas, 98.94 million cubic meters were exported to Bulgaria, and 0.03 million cubic meters to North Macedonia.
In January of this year, Turkey imported a total of 7 billion 723.22 million cubic meters of natural gas, which is 18.94% more compared to the same months in 2025.
In January, 3 billion 870.99 million cubic meters of gas were exported to Turkey via pipeline (50.12%), while 3 billion 852.23 million cubic meters (49.88%) accounted for liquefied natural gas (LNG).
It should be recalled that, according to customs declarations, in January-February of this year, Azerbaijan exported 4 billion 380 million 705.94 thousand cubic meters of natural gas. The value of natural gas exported from Azerbaijan amounted to 1 billion 285 million 413.26 thousand US dollars. During the reporting period, the volume of exported natural gas was 4.6% higher, and its value was 17.1% lower compared to the two months of 2025. In the reporting month, the share of natural gas in Azerbaijan's total exports was 35.07%.
It should be noted that on July 12, 2025, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between SOCAR and the Syrian government during the visit of Syria's transitional President Ahmed Al Sharaan to Azerbaijan. According to the agreement, technical preparations have been completed, and the export of Azerbaijani gas to Syria via Turkey commenced on August 2, 2025.
In the first phase of the project, 1.2 billion cubic meters of gas will be transported to Syria annually. The gas will be delivered via Kilis to power plants in Aleppo and Homs, enabling the production of 1200–1300 megawatts of electricity.
