Against the backdrop of long-term instability in the region, Azerbaijan's foreign policy course has already been formed.
Modern.az reports that this was stated by Azerbaijan's former Foreign Minister Tofiq Zülfüqarov in a post on his “Facebook” account.
"The contours of the processes that will take place in the north and south of the country are already becoming clear. A geopolitical chaos is forming in the region, fluctuating between “hot war” and a "neither war, nor peace” situation," he emphasized.
The former minister noted that such managed instability could continue for many years. Zülfüqarov believes that in such circumstances, the territory where the member countries of the Organization of Turkic States are located emerges as a zone of stability, with Azerbaijan at the center of this axis.
“Azerbaijan is the only state in the world that simultaneously borders both Russia and Iran. Against the backdrop of these realities, Azerbaijan's foreign policy course has already been determined."
In his opinion, the country should continue its policy of neutrality and non-interference in accordance with the principles of the Non-Aligned Movement.
Zülfüqarov also stated that the foreign policy traditions of Turkey and Switzerland during World War II could be beneficial for Azerbaijan in the future.
"The geopolitical line he characterized as a “land Suez Canal” between Europe and Asia has already been fully formed," he noted in conclusion.
