There are rose varieties named after 7 Azerbaijanis.
Regarding this, in response to an inquiry from Modern.az, information was provided by the Central Botanical Garden of ANAS.
Two of the academics whose names were given to roses are currently alive. One of them is Ahliman Amiraslanov, Chairman of the Health Committee of the Milli Majlis.
The rose named after the deputy has been cultivated since 2015. Thus, in 2015, a new rose variety created by selection and hybridization methods in the Floriculture Laboratory of the Central Botanical Garden of ANAS was named "Academic Ahliman Amiraslanov".
In addition, the name of the former president of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, geologist academician Akif Alizadeh, was also given to a new rose variety preserved today in the Botanical Garden.
Three more roses created through selection bear the names of academics.
One of them is the late Jalal Aliyev, who served as a deputy of the I, II, III, and IV convocations of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Another academic whose name was given to a rose was Hasan Aliyev. The soil scientist established the Forest Soils Laboratory within the Institute of Soil Science and Agrochemistry of ANAS in 1957 and led this department for nearly 35 years. From 1968 to 1987, he headed one of the large scientific institutions with a broad scientific profile of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Geography.
The name of botanist, Azerbaijani public and political figure, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan in 1954-1959, Doctor of Biological Sciences, full member of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, academician Imam Mustafayev, was also given to a new rose variety created in Azerbaijan.
In addition to academics, rose varieties have also been created in the names of General Kerim Kerimov and Nizami Ganjavi. These roses are currently cultivated in the Botanical Garden, which is under the jurisdiction of the Head of the Baku City Executive Power.
