The evacuation of French citizens Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris, who were accused and convicted of espionage in Iran, was carried out based on a special plan.
Modern.az reports that this information was disseminated by the publication "Intelligence Online", known for its proximity to French intelligence circles.
It was stated that Azerbaijan played one of the main roles in the operation. Specifically, the safe passage of French citizens during the transit phase was ensured with the support of Azerbaijan. According to the publication, official Baku actively participated in coordination with the French side.
According to the information, Kohler and Paris left the French Embassy in Tehran and moved northwards in Iran. As they advanced towards the Azerbaijani border, they stopped in the city of Tabriz, and then crossed the border. After crossing the border, their security was ensured by means of a diplomatic convoy.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot thanked Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov for the support provided in this process.
It should be noted that a few days after the incident, a representative of the Élysée Palace visited Baku with the aim of continuing negotiations.
