Forcing children to believe in religion is prohibited.

Modern.az reports that the issue is reflected in the draft law "On Children's Rights" discussed at today's plenary session of the Milli Majlis. The issue was adopted in the first reading.

According to the new draft, parents (persons replacing them) will be able to educate children in accordance with their religious beliefs and attitude towards religion, based on mutual consent.

It was noted that forcing children to believe in religion is prohibited. The religious upbringing of children should not negatively affect their physical and mental health.

The document states that restrictions on a child's freedom of religious belief may be imposed only in cases provided for by law, for the interests of public safety, ensuring public order, protecting health, morality, or the rights and freedoms of other persons.

It should be recalled that, according to the currently effective law of the same name, involving a child in the performance of religious rites that have a harmful effect on their health is prohibited.

The issue was put to a vote and adopted in the first reading.
