In Azerbaijan, children's property rights are being reformed.
Modern.az reports that the issue is reflected in the draft law "On Children's Rights" discussed at today's plenary session of the Milli Majlis. The issue was adopted in the first reading.
According to the draft, children will have property rights to their income (including alimony, scholarships, pensions, benefits, etc.), property acquired through inheritance or as a gift, as well as other property acquired at their expense.
The document emphasizes that the management of property belonging to a child in accordance with their best interests and the child's right to dispose of such property will be determined by the Civil Code and the Family Code.
It should be recalled that, according to the current law of the same name, a child has the right to inheritance and maintenance at the expense of their parents' property. The said article states that every child has the right to inheritance regarding the property of their parents, adoptive parents, and the right to be maintained at the expense of their property if both or one of the parents is declared missing or deceased by a court decision.
The issue was put to a vote and adopted in the first reading.
