The addition of a new article related to terrorism to the Criminal Code is proposed.
Modern.az reports that the issue was discussed at today's meeting of the Milli Majlis's Committee on Defense, Security, and Anti-Corruption.
According to the draft law, Article 214-4 is added to the Criminal Code. This article defines criminal liability for creating a terrorist organization, leading it, or participating in its activities.
Thus, creating a terrorist organization or leading it, as well as its structural units, will be punishable by deprivation of liberty for 10 to 14 years. Membership in a terrorist organization or participation in its activities, on the other hand, entails a prison sentence of 7 to 12 years.
The draft states that a person participating in the activities of a terrorist organization may be exempted from criminal liability if they timely inform law enforcement agencies, thereby helping prevent crimes and expose other participants, and if there is no other criminal offense in their actions.
