Only a few days remain until the arrival of Novruz holiday, an integral part of the ancient and rich cultural heritage of the Azerbaijani people. This spring holiday, having withstood the test of centuries and reaching us today, is celebrated in our country with great joy, enthusiasm, and special preparations, as it is every year.
With the approaching holiday, a revival is already observed in the capital's markets. Families have started purchasing the ingredients needed for preparing traditional sweets – pakhlava, gogal, shekerbura, and other delicious treats – that will adorn the Novruz table. For this reason, there is a noticeable increase in the number of people visiting the markets.
However, as every year, the topic of holiday shopping has become a subject of discussion this year in terms of prices. Do the prices of products offered in the market satisfy buyers? Is there an increase in the expenses incurred to set a Novruz table?
To clarify these questions, we, as Modern.az, visited the "8th Kilometer Market," known among the public as "Vosmoy Bazarı," which is one of the busiest commercial areas of the capital. There, we tried to learn firsthand the opinions of both buyers and sellers, as well as their points of satisfaction and dissatisfaction regarding the variety and prices of products.
Some sellers admitted that prices have increased, complaining that buyers are not purchasing from them due to this. Citizens, on the other hand, stated that compared to last year, the expenses required for a standard holiday table have significantly increased this year.
